Reflection #1 In the beginning of my teammates and I symposium experience, our original topic was very much overrated and we wanted to challenge ourselves with a more interesting topic, and so we made our topic love. Based on the articles that I myself have read, the subject of love has many perspectives and thoughts from different types of people. Some may say that you are too young to know the meaning of love and that love isn´t a number. While others may say the power of love is the best antidepressant. However, I believe that love relates to the universal theme of power because love has the ability to influence people. Love can also be used or abused and this may give people power over others. Also, love is always present in some form and it can take many forms. So far, I have learned some new views that people have on love and how people explain what love means to them. I have also found out that love is interpreted in lots of different ways all around the world. Not only did we change our topic but we obviously changed our theme and generalizations as well. In my future research, I would like to find out what a specialist/professional on the topic thinks because some of my articles that I chose were written by anonymous users online just stating their opinions. This past week has been very difficult to work on symposium but I still had time over the week to discuss my team's new topic and what articles we were going to use to annotate. I am getting more interested in my topic every time I research about it and I believe that my symposium experience will eventually help me learn more about myself and what I like. Reflection #2 Since my last reflection, my group and I have changed our driving question because it was very vague. We have also found out more information on how the brain contributes to the power of love. For the student-led research portion of our project, we chose to create an interview for a psychologist that works near the Santa Ana area. So for, we have been struggling to find scientific research that makes our project have a twist to make it interesting. We need to get our email cc’d, then after that we can get our email sent to our expert. We hope that she will respond to our email as soon as possible. My group and I need to focus on working together because sometimes someone does something and the other person doesn’t. Reflection #3 Since my last reflection, I have learned so much new information about my topic. I have learned how love changes someone physically, mentally, and emotionally. I have learned that it’s better not to wait until last minute because then you get stressed about not finishing on time. I was very glad when I finish my board with some help from my team mates. I would sometimes get mad at my teammates for not working. I need to learn how to keep my cool when everything doesn’t go as planned. My group and I have made our board symbolic by adding a man outline showing his brain and nervous system. We made big hearts come out of the top of his brain and that is where we put our driving question. For our supplemental piece we are planning to make a photobooth of two people making a heart with their hands as representing two people that love each other. We already planned where two get the supplies for this and when we are going to start. We are going to one of my teammate’s house to work on it there. We need two poster boards, paint, and scissors. My collaboration with my teammates could be better. I get lots of things done sometimes when they just fool around. But overall, they have done a good amount of work. Reflection #4 How does the power of love contribute to physical, mental, and emotional change in an individual? We revised what we are going to say for our presentation. During my symposium experience, I have found out lots about the topic of love. I now know the scientific reasons why we feel love and why we believe we are in love. I learned how to correctly find scholarly research for my topic. I also learned that it is better to practice your presentation in order for things to go smoothly. I have learned that student led research requires lots of time and thought to find great worthy information. I liked working with others because things got done faster. I would have used my time more wisely if I were to do this project differently. For an incoming symposium student, I would recommend that they used there time wisely and get things done before its done. |
